A Journey of Making Money Online

Lately I feel like I have just been randomly throwing darts at a dartboard and nothing sticks! You ever feel like this? Well perhaps you need a bit of reference as that's a pretty vague statement.

Back in June I was working from home, as I had been seen late March when co-vid started. I show up to my weekly scheduled Teams meeting (it's similar to Zoom but Microsoft branded) and BOOM! Just like that I am fired, no warning, no inclination, nothing just totally and completely caught off guard. My whole office of six people are all canned. Sinora. Bye - Bye! Pack up your things and go! But not literally as you are already working from home anyways..

Needless to say spiraled a bit, and went back to bed at 10:12 in the morning with cuddling my baby Yoda stuffie and bottle of vodka. Yeah I don't promote drowning your problems with liquor but hell I gave myself the day to cry, watch netflix and just ask what the F! am I going to do with my life now?

I was just starting to feel comfortable at 36. Finally got a good job in my northern Ontario home town which is not an easy feat! as they seem to be few and far between even more so for those of us who can't handle stressful physical jobs, yeah I'l admit I love my cushy office jobs with a stable 71 degrees daily! How my boyfriend works asphalt in the dead of summer is beyond me, but I digress.

I finally found a job - with benefits! with pension! Yeah how often does THAT happen now a days? So now here I am jobless with 5 kids, yeah 5 in our blended family. (Insert Swear here < about the job not the kids, where's your head at?) I'm not going to say I didn't literally swear but I try to keep this blog fairly on the G rated side.

So then I frantically start looking for jobs, trying to get in touch with the contacts I had before they forget how great I was at my job! When my friends told me to just - Chill. Breath. Something I obviously struggle with. I still had 4 weeks of pay with my severance, and I qualified for Employment Insurance so I wouldn't be left high and drive. Apologies I have no idea how that works in other countries but in Canada, you get a percentage of your salary unless you were fired for reasons out of your control. Like this mass pandemic called CO-VID that hit us nearly a year ago now! God, has it really been that long now?

In addition I was making $500 a month blogging. By no means am I living the rich life but it definitely helps. Also for any trolls, yes I did claim it. I have terrible luck and have been audited like 4 times since college, think my name got picked in the world's worst lottery!

Okay so now I am thinking $500 a month what if I could make 5 times that amount? Not completely impossible? Then I could make enough to live on. I have been blogging for years as a hobby which I actually like so what if I made that my job? I actually have time to focus on now.

    So I am thinking what if I expand my sources of income? I make the bulk of my money from Google AdSence and maybe 8% from affiliates sites. Here is my current September earnings from Amazon;

Yup, you read that graph right, I made negative 67 cents this month. NEGATIVE! How does that even happen? Okay rhetroical question someone obviously returned something from the previous month but still. STILL. Sorry I'll calm down...

I usually create designs for free printables what if I offered those on physical products?  So I stumbled upon Zazzle! Awesome now I can focus completely on just the designs and not the fulfillment of orders.

Fast forward to two months later and 810 products designed, I have two sales - two, and to be honest one is from my last attempt at Zazzle, and my only recent one to date for a whopping $2.61 is still pending. If one of my blog readers bought this a huge thank you but still Dang!

Feeling a bit deflated, okay more than a bit I begin looking at other options. Maybe Etsy? I heard you can list 40 products for free before you have to start paying to upload them. Okay I like Etsy but don't have a desire to physically edit each invitation, or ship physical items.

Then found a post for Amazon Merch, so applied to that as well because at this current point I'm thinking what the hell? So now I am waiting to see if I get approved although hear you can only upload a limited designs at a time until you get more sales? I don't know. (I'll update you about that later)

Maybe I can write an e-book. Although I think I have adult ADHD, and no I'm not trying to make light of something I have a difficult time focusing, I don't usually write a lot about myself personally but when I do you can see my mind jumps from thought to thought although they often seem unrelated my mind has made 6 connections in between. So the thought of writing an e-book is a little daunting. Perhaps that's why I like blog posts... there I did it again.

And then there is what subject to write about? How you can be somewhat successful at blogging? How to make enough money to pay your inflated monthly cell phone bill while working so many hours that if you worked it out you'd be making less than minimum wage? Cleaning and Organizing? Not unless it's a how not to book - and really I can't seeing anyone paying $9.99 for that information.

Maybe Pinterest? It's something I am mildy good at - 3 million views isn't too terrible. Yeah it's in the works with all the other great ideas I had, and never finished following through with. Like my 183 draft blog posts - yeah that's the actual number and not inflated. Face Palm.

I once thought about adding one of those donation buttons to my page - you know the one where it says buy the author or designer a coffee? Maybe since I offer everything for free, people would donate? No that's an actual question not rhetorical. But then, it seemed like too many steps to figure out how to actually set it up I never even went through with it.

Well maybe I will eventually see one of these ideas come to fruition until then throwing darts at a dart board blind folded, and if we are going to be honest with each other I can't hit it with both eyes open. Metaphorically and literally people stopped letting my play as I messed up their drywall.

How I make $500 blogging on Top of a Full Time Job

Blogging is not easy. It is hard to make a full time income when you are just starting out. So I kept my full time job where I have full benefits and make commission and use the money I earn blogging as my disposable income.

earn money blogging

I had a fairly good month in January with a small bump in traffic, and Amazon revenue which actually increased after the Christmas season. Here's a break down of what I made for January:

How to earn money blogging
Adsense is by far my highest source of income month over month. And I have been on the hunt for a Google Adsense alternative that would give me even a nominal amount in comparison. But I have yet to find a company that I am evenly remotely satisfied with. Svorn has not brought in a very much revenue and will be replacing them next month. And you can check out a few tip on ad placement and Increasing your Google Adsense Income.

I was really surprised by my Amazon income for January as I would thought it would significantly drop form the $29.33 I made in December as I anticipated sales would decrease after Christmas but I did include more native posts within some of my more popular posts.

make money as an amazon affiliate

I have had moderate success with Share a Sale in the past when I promote certain product within a specific blog post. They don't seem to have a great turn around as a sidebar banner although I do save the prime spots for my Google Adsense ads. Infolinks is an intext advertisement company and they seem to bring in a steady although not huge source of income on a monthly basis.

And when I posted my December income someone asked how much views I have so here are the views I had in January:

increasing blog traffic

January was one of my better months for revenu and income recently, and I received over 62,580 views for January. I usually have about 1800 to 2000 page views a day.

I did not write any sponsor posts in January although would like to add some more in the near future but find it time consuming to make all the pitches to the company with a great chance of rejection so it is an area I need to work on.

If you want to see last months income you can find Decembers Blog Income here.

Did you have any tips on accruing sponsored posts or a program you would recommend as a secondary source of income to Adsense I would love to hear it!

December Blog Income

A lot of times we are curious about what other bloggers make. We want to learn which programs and affiliates they utilize and how we can increase our own revenues but, often times after I finish reading these articles I feel like I have not gained any more knowledge then I previously had. Hopefully you won’t feel the same way after reading this article…

steps to making money blogging

In December  according to Google Analytics I had 37, 135 page views, a bounce rate of 67.02 % and 10.2% returning visitors. I had 52.8% from social links (mainly Pinterest) 33.1% from organic searches like Google searches or images and 12.5% direct acquisition and the rest were from referrals (like Link Parties) and other means.

Now bigger blogs may snuff at the idea of making only $300 a month but this blog is a source of additional income for me on top of my full time job with benefits. If you work on it full time then you can see more profitable returns.

Google Adsense

My income from Google Adsense has been continuously growing month after month. And I definitely reccomend once you are an established blog (over 90 days old and seeing some traffic) you apply for Google Adsense.

making money with google adsense

Two main factors increase your Google Adsense revenue: placement and page views. Google allows you to ad three display ad placements, three links and two search boxes to your blog and I suggest using all of them as they are a great source of passive income. Also don’t forget to include one or two mobile advertisements as well.

Page Views will be discussed in an upcoming post. And you can read more about Google Adsense ad placement here.

InfoLinks

Infolinks is one of the first programs I joined and still use. They have minimum requirements for joining and are fairly simple to install – you just have to paste their html code or install a plug-in (their instructions are actually fairly easy to understand)

InfoLinks has various different ad groups – I only have the intext and intag enabled and I disabled all the pop up ads; although they have a high return they personally irritate me to no end, therefore I don’t want to deter any repeat viewers but that is just my opinion, so you can try your own variation and see what works for you.

They also have a referral program where you can earn 10% of your referrals income for a year so I would appreciate it – if you use my link. Join InfoLinks here ;)

DealSpotr

DealSpotr is a site that rewards you for finding deals. You can earn $5 to join, $15 for adding a button to your blog and another $50 for writing an honest blog post about their company. You are paid in Amazon gift cards unless you receive ‘gold status’ and I have already received a payment of $86.01 from them through paypal.

DealSpotr is not one of my large recurring sources of income but I actively try to find a few lucrative sponsored posts each month. You can read more about DealSpotr here

Amazon Affiliates

Amazon is fairly easy to sign up for unless you live in a few certain states. I initially had issues signing up for the American Amazon Affiliate program being Canadian as I had a limited amount of time to sell something before it expired and I had to rejoin the program. But after that initial hiccup have had moderate success with Amazon and thought I might see a decrease in my Amazon earning in January as Christmas has passed but have already exceeded my earning and it only day 16.

Amazon is great because you can find a link to any product you want, have related search results after your posts and have native ads - so products people were already previewing will show up in the native ads so they are highly targeted. Also you get credit for anything people buy after they go to Amazon through your link and I believe the link doesn't expire for 24 hours.

Amazon starts with a 4% commission rate per month and increases the rate to 6% after shipping 7 products. Unfortunately the higher commission rates are reset at the beginning of each month.

Link Vehicle

Link Vehicle is going to be rebranded to Valued Voice beginning February 1st. They except smaller blogs, and have a few different opportunities:

Sponsored Posts:
Write articles and topics we provide, or publish articles already written on your behalf. We also find products for you to review and giveaway for your readers.

Sponsored Social:
Share brand messages with your social followers on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.

They send you an email when they have available opportunities which for me has averaged out to at least one post per month (sometimes there's none and sometimes there's three)
there was no minimum payment but I think that's changing to $100 with the change over.

Svorn

I joined Svorn a couple months ago but am currently on the search for a more profitable display advertisement option in addition to Google AdSense. They have a few requirements for joining including you can’t currently have more than six total display advertisements on your site.

But I have not seen enough profits with them in comparison to other options so will probably discontinue using Svorn soon. You can leave suggestions if you have had success with another company in the comments.

And if you are looking for more information about blogging you can find Everything You Wanted to know about Blogging.

If you have questions or anything isn't clear let me know in the comments so I can expand. Thanks!!

How to Earn Money with DealSpotr

I have to admit I was very skeptical when I joined DealSpotr through a recommendation from a fellow blogger as I haven't had much luck with rewards sites. I found Swagbucks takes way to much effort to earn anything at all.

how to make money online

But have been fairly happy with Dealspotr. Dealspotr is a fairly new website which brings all the latest and hottest deals and promo codes together in one spot.  And you don't have to worry about expired or broken links because deals are constantly validated by other consumers. You can search deals by your favourite category or store.
And not only does it save you money you can also earn Amazon gift cards or get paid by Paypal just for sharing deals. Bloggers and Influencers can earn even more.

You are given a referral code you can share on your blog or social media platforms and earn 20% of the points generated by all your referrals over the lifetime of their accounts.

If you join using my link or promo code (MUSINGSOFANAVERAGEMOM) you earn an extra +5,000 points ($5 equivalent) when you complete your new user checklist and post your first valid deal.

And you can earn another 15,000 points by achieving silver status:

dealspotr review

Which is super simple to get if you have your own blog, you just need to validate it through email and place a small button somewhere on your blog. Boom! you just earned $15!

And if you earn gold status through writing your own review, validating deals and posting a deals widget you can earn 50,000 points (or $50) cash through paypal instead of Amazon giftcards.

You can earn points for posting deals, validating deals and predicting which deals are going to be 'hot deals' You earn a bonus percentage based on your reputation - which increases when you validate and post accurate deals. I currently earn 10% bonus on everything I post, and the number of deals you can post increases as well.

how to earn on dealspotr

They also have daily checklist where you can earn extra points (usually 200) for performing different actions like following people, validating deals, adding your favourite interests and stores and more. And although 200 doesn't seem like a lot of points when considering you need 10,000 to receive a $10 Amazon card you also receive points (I get about 125) for posting or validating a deal.

However, one of the requirements on occasion is to debunk broken links and I have had my links considered broken in error for someone to meet their requirements.

how does dealspotr work

I have found one simple way to post new deals is by signing up for deal notifications from major box stores - therefore when I receive an email form Carters, VistaPrint Canada, Zazzle, Shutterfly, etc. I can post the promo codes and screenshots on DealSpotr and earn points from them . Deals are posted frequently so you have to be quick to add a new deal and be credited for being the first to share it - or you can validate the same existing deal with screenshots and instructions.

And you can find some of the latest deals I have shared here:
